![]() ![]() Someone told us this show was gonna sell out so we wanted to get there really early. This is a tough one as the answer is probably 'nobody', but if you're looking for Pop-punk which is heavy on atmosphere you should checkout PRVIS.I met up with my friends (Erin and Liz) around 3:15 so that we could make a quick trip to the store, grab some food and go stand in line at the White Rabbit to make sure we got a good spot. Where can I find? Although the band is no longer active, their entire work can easily be found online on Spotify/Youtube/Itunes However, as far as I am aware, nothing has been released. In June 2015, Sierra confirmed that the duo were ready to begin working on a new release following Neon in a new studio that Blake would be building in Brooklyn, New York, but that they would go under a new moniker and completely abolish the name VERSA. The new album would feature a more techno sound and several singles were released as a preview for the album, and several more as a package for the fans in the 'Neon' EP.Īfter several lineup changes the only two members remaining are front woman Seirra and guitarist Blake. After this the band changed their name, dropping the 'Emerge' to become just 'VERSA'. The band then wrote and finished recording their second album, Another Atmosphere, but were dropped from their record label before it could be released. Versa Emerge really found a owned a great and unique sound with this EP, a melodic, atmospheric, spacious noise which I haven't heard anything similar to since.Īfter the self-titled EP, Versa Emerge went on to release their debut full length, Fixed At Zero, which sadly saw a some-what departure of the sound of their previous works. ![]() The final kick-in of the drums after the monotone pre-chorus is extremely nice, and the lasting riff the plays out the EP is a good summation of the band's sound throughout this project. Lyrical highlights about the 'wind stealing prayers' and skies 'pulling whites from eyes', show the band's ability to evoke similar emotions other Pop-Punk songs are built on, without having to rely too heavily on cliche and overused lyrics often found when listening to other bands in the genre. The slowest track on the project really doubles down on the atmosphere and unique sound the band had portrayed in the tracks previously. 'Clocks', a re-work from their first EP 'Perceptions', is a beautiful and fitting end to the EP. 'Whisperer' also shows off guitarist and backing vocalist Blake's vocals which complement Sierra's extremely well. 'Whisperer' cleverly incorporates the intro track again, this time re-producing the string melody louder and quicker throughout the song. 'Moments Between Sleep', features an extremely jumpy riff layered over more intricate guitar work. 'Moments Between Sleep' and 'Whisperer' follow in the same dark, moody, spacious vein. The atmosphere and theme of the EP stays consistent with the lyrics portraying imagery of 'bones', 'time', 'sleepless eyes' and everything inbetween. 'Past Praying For' features a moody downbeat guitar riff over sunken vocals before coming to life with Sierra's powerful delivery of 'finger-tipping down my spine'. Front-woman Sierra Kay's, (who you may be familiar with for her guest spot on ADTR's 'If It Means A Lot To You'), soothing vocals overlap the ting of bells before the percussion kicks in ushering in a familiar Pop-Punk beat and guitar riff. Any worries about the band ditching their atmospheric style from Perceptions are quickly eased, once the tracks rolls into (strangely, in an unclean manor) the opening track 'The Hider'. The 6 track EP starts with a string and piano introduction in 'Theatrics' which perfectly sets the tone for what's to come. After the band had started to make a statement with their previous EP 'Perceptions' could they continue their rise up now they had the backing of a label behind them? Versa Emerge released their self titled EP via their record label Fueled By Ramen who they had just signed for. Please don't crucify me over what counts as 'true pop-punk' especially with this first one. Just a quick introduction/review of a project to help get people who have never heard of them to give it a try and see if they like it. The following is the first post of a series I intend to do, (if people like it) to introduce some great albums from some Pop-Punk bands who are no longer active.
